If you鈥檝e passed by Belmont Secondary recently, you may have noticed a new logo.
The transformation began in 2023 when the school decided it was time to refresh its crest, originally designed in 1977. Guided by the wisdom of the Elder Consultation Circle, the redesign draws inspiration from the land鈥攁 central theme that reflects Belmont鈥檚 identity and deep connection to its surroundings.
Student voices played a vital role in shaping the vision. Among the 30 initial designs submitted by students, Vienna Wigg鈥檚 ideas stood out as a key influence. To bring the concept to life, the school collaborated with Weyla Qwiy鈥檃anitsa Chipps, a proud member of Sc鈥檌anew First Nations (Beecher Bay). A Belmont graduate and former Education Assistant at the school for seven years, Weyla blended cultural significance with artistic expression to create a logo that authentically represents the Belmont community.
This collaborative effort resulted in a design that tells a story of movement, balance, and harmony鈥攃apturing the natural rhythms of the island we call home. More than just a symbol, the new logo embodies the power of community, the spirit of collaboration, and a shared connection to the land.
